Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Water and cranberry juice
  • Water bottle or rice sock
  • Clean underwear
  1. Step 1

Encourage your child to drink lots of water and cranberry juice without the added sugar. Cranberry juice has antibacterial properties that help to fight off bladder infections. One of the best ways to make cranberry juice is to grind up some cranberries in a blender and add some water. It will be bitter, but is very effective this way. Cranberries help prevent the bacteria that causes bladder infections from sicking to the bladder, and with frequent urination, the bacteria gets washed out.

  2. Step 2

Encourage your child to eat foods that are rich in Vitamin C, because these will naturally help the body to fight off infection. Some foods that are rich in vitamin C include: citrus fruits, green peppers, dark leafy greens, cabbage, broccoli, brussel sprouts, tomatoes and strawberries. If your child isn't interested in eating any of these, you can make a smoothie to drink instead.

  3. Step 3

To minimize discomfort, place a warm water bottle on top of the lower abdomen and back. If you do not have a water bottle, you can use a heated rick sock which works just as well.

  4. Step 4

Make sure that your child has clean underwear. It is good to change underwear frequently with a bladder infection and wearing cotton is best.

  5. Step 5

Observe your child and make sure that she is wiping from front to back after going to the bathroom. Wiping from back to front, which is how many of us are taught, brings bacteria close to the urethra and can promote infections and delay healing.

  6. Step 6

If symptoms worsen or the pain becomes intolerable, see a healthcare provider for treatment.

Bladder infections are very common among children. Common things that start infections are improper wiping, taking baths with scented perfumes or bubble bath, wearing tight or restricting clothes, lack of fluids and full bowels. However, some children have growth anomalies that cause infections. If a bladder infection is caught early enough, it is easier to treat. The following steps will help you to naturally treat bladder infections.
